When applying from abroad, keep your passport nationality separate from your country of residence. A UAE residence permit, UK residence status or US residence document is not a substitute for the nationality recorded in the passport used for the India application.

Separate nationality, residence and departure country

Read each field as written. A person can have a valid residence document for one country, hold a passport from another and depart from a third without those answers being interchangeable.
An expat example without an eligibility shortcut
Suppose you hold a Canadian passport, live in Dubai and fly to India through Doha. Check the application route using the passport and the current authority rules. Supply residence and travel information in the fields that ask for those details; do not select the UAE or Qatar as the passport nationality merely because they appear in the itinerary.
This example illustrates the fields, not a blanket decision that any particular residence status grants an India eVisa. If more than one passport is available, decide which document will be used for the trip and keep the application, bookings and authorization consistent with that decision.
Special cases cannot be solved by choosing a different residence
The official India eVisa instructions direct travelers with a Pakistani passport or Pakistani origin to the regular visa route at an Indian mission. Do not interpret residence in the UAE, UK or US as a workaround for that instruction.
Answer the specific nationality and background questions truthfully. If your case needs a mission application, follow the mission's current instructions for your residence jurisdiction. Do not purchase a private urgent eVisa option in the belief that it changes the authority's eligibility rules.
If the draft has the wrong country
Before submission, compare the passport fields with the original document and review the residence question separately. If the application has already been submitted, keep the reference and ask the selected submission channel about the correction route. A private profile edit should not be assumed to amend the authority record.
